Inside the offseason workouts of Wisconsin QBs Graham Mertz and Chase Wolf

On the day Wisconsin’s spring football practices were scheduled to begin three weeks ago, quarterback Graham Mertz found himself in an unusual situation: back home in Kansas and without the structure of the college environment he had anticipated would help enhance his development.

With campuses shutting down across the country in the wake of a global pandemic, spring practice was out. Mertz, like so many other athletes trying to perfect their craft, decided to create a new routine with what he had at his disposal. He headed over to a local sports performance facility, which had been sanitized and cleared out to adhere to social distancing guidelines but remained open for a handful of individual personal training sessions.

Once there, Mertz sweated through a workout that consisted of split squat jumps, superman exercises to engage the abs and strengthen the back, lateral push-up walks, reverse lunges, lateral lunges, pull-ups, single-leg glute bridges and planks...
